Your Personal Marketing Coach
Think of having your own, personal marketing guru. Sounds great, right? Your marketing guru is exceptionally talented and will help you increase revenue, attract more referrals, communicate more effectively, and build your reputation. At PSM we refer to our guru work as marketing coaching. Working with a marketing coach is just as much about driving new business as it is about developing your skills as a thought leader. The marketing coaching process at PSM Marketing has been built, buffed, and polished over the past 25 years. When you work with a PSM marketing coach you are working with someone dedicated entirely to you and your success.
We help you reach new heights in your business – heights you might not be able to achieve on your own. Our coaching approach is based on the Four Pillars of Marketing ™ – a marketing system we developed to help busy yet motivated people like you achieve the income and revenue you know is possible. Our marketing coaching approach combines strategic marketing advice with a process designed to bring shared accountability to your sales and marketing efforts. We know you’re busy. We even know that marketing may not be your biggest priority right now. At PSM Marketing we promise to be flexible as we help you achieve your goals. Why wait? We are here right now to talk with you about where you would like to be in six months, next year, and well into the future. Contact us to learn more.
The Marketing Coaching Process
To help you achieve your specific marketing goals, our marketing coaching services use a four-phased process:
Marketing Assessment
We have always had a “strategy before tactics” approach to marketing coaching. Because of this, we start the marketing planning process by taking a step back to look at what has made you who you are today. What marketing efforts have worked for you? Which haven’t? Who are your top contacts and how did you meet them? Within what organizations are you active? Do you serve on any boards? What are your biggest frustrations in sales and marketing? Is your website generating business for you? Can people easily find you online? How do you communicate with your best contacts? How does this year’s revenue compare to last years, and the year before? How do new clients or customers find you?
During the marketing assessment we also use tools like the Gallop Organization’s StrengthsFinder, as well as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to better understand your innate strengths and personality preferences. We also use a tailored Strategic Marketing Questionnaire (SMQ) to gather as much information as we can on your current situation.
We also ask that you share your website, recent proposals, articles published, association involvement, marketing materials, revenue summaries and more. Don’t worry – we provide a list for you!
After the marketing assessment is done, we summarize what we’ve found and give you our preliminary thoughts. We want to make sure we are rowing in the same direction, singing out of the same songbook….. you get the idea. We wouldn’t dream of moving to the next phase without this level of analysis.
Develop Your Sales and Marketing Plan
“Plans are Nothing: Planning is Everything,” Dwight D. Eisenhower
How many times have you decided, “I am going to sit down and write a plan?” For what? It doesn’t matter. You likely have strong evidence of your past planning efforts buried in a desk drawer or hidden in a book case somewhere. Having a plan is nothing unless you commit to implementing it. Having a “plan collection” will do nothing to help you achieve your business goals. That’s why your marketing coach will create a customized sales and marketing plan FOR you. Don’t get me wrong – we collaborate with you. You have input, but PSM Marketing takes the laboring oar to turn your marketing assessment into a proactive, results-oriented sales and marketing plan. We help you get to the heart of what you want to achieve.
We recommend business and revenue objectives, key messages, and target audiences. We help you figure out what makes you a unique butterfly. Enter The Four Pillars of Marketing. We then use our marketing system to help you create a balanced approach to your sales and marketing efforts. Your balanced approach will include how to expand and grow current relationships, develop new sources of income, build your name and reputation, and, through targeted communications, let people know how amazingly cool you are.
Take Action
Now the fun begins! Every week or two we will get together via videoconference, telephone, or in person to help you implement your plan. We know you have good intentions, and it is our job to make sure your intentions become actions, and that those actions generate results. There are so many strong reasons you, one of the busiest people you know, will be successful in sales and marketing. You are already motivated. You hired a marketing coach! Your coach will guide you, support you, encourage you, be your cheerleader, and help you decide on where your valuable time should be spent. Remember when you committed yourself to “work out five times per week,” or “spend more time reading,” or “take a painting class?” Did it happen? Only if you made it – you guessed it – a priority. As with any personal goal you set for yourself, if you don’t make it priority, it Just. Won’t. Happen. But your marketing coach is a glass half-full person so let’s rephrase. If you implement your sales and marketing plan consistently over time, you WILL be successful.
When we meet, we focus on two key areas: sales and marketing projects, and growing and nurturing your best contacts. On the projects front, we can help you implement everything from A – Z. You can also refer to our Marketing Coaching Checklist.
Next, we also create a Contact Action Plan for you that identifies:
- Type of Contact – Whether the contact is a current client, prospective client, industry contact, or referral source
- Your Last Interaction – When and where your last interaction with them occurred and other background
- Your Next Interaction – Next Steps! This is it – where the rubber meets the road. We will discuss the “what now?” and “what next?” with each of your contacts. It’s true. Over 80% of next year’s revenue is likely to come from your existing contacts. So growing and nurturing your base of contacts is uber important.
Measure Results
What business person isn’t interested in ROI? We have yet to meet one. You are investing time and money by working with your marketing guru. Now you need to see results! It is fair to say there is a direct correlation between making sales and marketing a priority, and generating results. We will only recommend what we know works. In fact, we go so far as to say, “If you can’t measure it, don’t do it.” Before you spend one moment on a “marketing thing,” we will figure out how we will measure the results, and if that thing is be the best and highest use of your time, we will help you every step of the way.
One thing is certain. There is no “easy button” in sales and marketing. It’s about doing what your competitors are not willing to do that will really make you stand out. It is our job, as your marketing coach, to only recommend what we know will generate positive results and ROI for you.
