Kristy L. Gusick: Often, when we start an engagement with either an individual coaching client or an outsourced marketing client, we start with the StrengthFinder. If you’re not familiar with what the StrengthFinder is, it’s a personality tool that was developed by the Gallup Organization over 12 years ago. They developed it after doing years of research on individuals and their personalities. They developed a test that you can take. It takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. From there, they will give you your results as to what your top five out of 34 personality strengths are.
What we found is that helping people understand how they’re uniquely gifted, and what their unique personality strengths are, really helps them in their individual marketing efforts. Often, our clients are extremely intelligent and have just succeeded in life based on their intelligence. When they get into their profession, such as being an attorney or being a financial advisor or being a CPA, they find that oh, suddenly, they have to go out and develop relationships and market by writing blogs or giving presentations. That may be overwhelming to them.
What we want to do is just start by encouraging them and helping them better understand themselves and what their individual strengths are so that we can incorporate a plan that will help use their individual strengths to develop their own business based on their own natural skills. We’ve found that clients just really develop confidence a lot quicker, which is a huge part of developing marketing, marketing strategy is confidence and being able to move forward and engage and be really collaborative in the process. We’re always thrilled when clients are willing to engage with us and take the StrengthFinder at the beginning because it gives us so much leverage to help bring forth the best marketing plan for them.
